Picture of the Month
January 2009
Anavilhanas Archipelago, Rio Negro, Amazonian Brazil
This is the largest freshwater archipelago in the world, a network of forested island strips stretching for fifty miles along the Rio Negro north of Manaus, Brazil. Shooting from the open door of a small plane, I spent an hour criss-crossing this astonishing landscape, unlike anything I had ever seen before.
