Shackleton's Island : South Georgia
This month, a slight departure. Rather than a single image, I am posting several from my recent expedition to the island of South Georgia. Located in the Atlantic sub-Antarctic, South Georgia is a magical place, with spectacular mountain scenery, compelling history, and one of the greatest collections of wildlife I have ever seen.
I spent several weeks there in December, thanks to the South Georgia Heritage Trust, the British Antarctic Survey, and the Royal Navy, on whose ship, the HMS ENDURANCE, I was fortunate enough to travel. The purpose of the trip was to gather photographs for a new book in my Wild Isles series. These images are a preview.
