Emperor Penguins, Weddell Sea
I hope you have seen the wonderful new film, MARCH OF THE PENGUINS. Who knew that a full-length feature film about natural history could be so popular? The fact is that it portrays one of the greatest stories in Nature : the life history of the Emperor Penguin.
This image was taken in an Emperor colony in the Weddell Sea, nearly ten years ago, in preparation for my book, Penguin Planet. Here, a marching trio of Emperors is about to demonstrate the "Slide of the Penguins" as they slip down onto their bellies to cover more ground.
Camera : Nikon N90s Film : Fuji Velvia 50
